AQUATICS DIRECTOR POSTED: 8/22/08
Full-Time
Major responsibility is to oversee the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events in the club’s aquatics program areas for youth ages 6-18. Additional responsibilities include the oversight of program staff and department budget.
Responsibilities:
In conjunction with department staff, provide a variety of programming options reflective of the BGCB Aquatics Program. The Director will also run individual programs, activities, trips, etc. Individual responsibilities include, but not limited to, oversight of open swim, swim lessons, swim team, and lifeguard training.
Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as deemed appropriate.
Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff from other clubhouse departments as well as staff from other BGCB clubhouses and community organizations as appropriate. Participate in NENEAPC programs as appropriate.
Coordinate volunteers and consultants who can offer related instruction, support and guidance to members.
Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluations programs including BGCA’s annual evaluation Commitment to Quality.
Orient, train and supervise department staff (including work-study students, junior staff, volunteers). Provide annual performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner.
Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s). Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).
Participate in individual and group supervision sessions; participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.
Travel between sites and to activities as needed
Other related duties as specified by the Director of Operations.
Qualifications:
BA/BS in related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
Direct experience developing and delivering aquatics programs for youth; experience in out-of-school-time settings preferred
Knowledge of trends in swimming techniques, pool maintenance, and lifeguard training
WSI, lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications; pool operator certification preferred
Minimum one year supervisory experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
MS Office and web competency preferred
Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change
Valid driver’s license required
TEEN EDUCATION COORDINATOR POSTED: 5/23/08
Major responsibility is to serve as advocate for teen members and provide after-school tutoring and career/higher education guidance to Club teen members. Develop, implement and evaluate teen programs of the BGCB Education Program.
Responsibilities:
Develop and monitor an in-school tracking system/program for members ages 12 to 14 who are at risk of failing a grade or dropping out of school
Within the local middle school, serve as advocate to meet the students’ needs with the teachers, monitor students’ attendance, recommend appropriate referrals and placements for students and foster communication between home and school. Provide regular updates to parents regarding students’ progress and/or alerting them to problems the member may be experiencing.
Provide after-school tutoring sessions and other academic support activities to in-school program members.
Act as advocate to older teens (ages 15 to 18) and provide them with a variety of programs to prepare them to transition out of the Clubhouse. Programming options should include, but are not limited to, career exploration (BGCA’s Job Ready!), mentoring, and college exploration/admission preparation (College Club).
Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as deemed appropriate.

Other administrative duties include, but are not limited to, tracking documentation of members in the in-school program, data collection, administering questionnaires, convening focus groups and older teen exit interviews and a variety of written reports.
In order to meet/exceed the minimum program standards of the corresponding core module(s), collaborate programs and events with Teen Director and other Clubhouse staff. When appropriate, collaborate with staff from other BGCB Clubhouses and community organizations.
When appropriate, supervise volunteers and consultants who can offer related instruction/support to teen members.
Participate in individual and group supervision sessions and periodic professional development opportunities.
Travel between sites and to activities as needed.
Other related duties as specified by the Teen Director.
