On Wednesday, March 10, 2010 nine girls from the Dearborn Boys and Girls Club Young Entrepreneurs Project had the opportunity to put their job skills to work - literally!  These nine girls shadowed employees from The Parent Review, an organization in Jamaica Plain that sends e-newsletters to new and expecting parents.  During the job shadow experience, each girl was paired with a Parent Review employee.  The girls had an opportunity to sit in on a staff meeting, learn the ins and outs of a sales pitch, and see the process of redesigning the company's web page.  Parent Review employees learned from the girls too:  the girls shared with employees their favorite web sites and gave their perspectives on what features should be included on The Parent Review's new site to make it more youth accessible.  Betsy Weaver, founder and CEO of The Parent Review has invited the girls back for a more in-depth job shadow experience, and the Dearborn Boys and Girls Club Young Entrepreneurs are excited to return.

On Thursday, October 22, 12 Dearborn Club members visited the TD Bank Garden as part of a kick off event for the Stand Strong program. Club members were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the TD Bank Garden and the Sports Museum, and one member won a Celtics basketball as part of a scavenger hunt. Stand Strong is a 12-week program designed to reinforce sports related concepts such as determination, courage and teamwork.

Last month, staff from the Museum of Science Community Outreach Department visited the Dearborn Boys & Girls Club.  Club members had the opportunity to test out an earthquake machine, build paper towers, and design their own catapult.  Participants were also rewarded with a free trip to the Museum and Omni movie.  A special thank you to the Community Outreach Department for their generosity!

15 Boston College ‘First Year Experience” volunteers spent a day painting the Dearborn Club’s Games Room.  The volunteers also assisted with homework help, played pool and ping pong, and spent time getting to know our Club members.  A special thank you to Ryan Mulderrig and Elizabeth Bracher for helping organize this community service event.

On Saturday, April 25, Major League baseball and Boys and Girls Clubs of America, invited Dearborn Club member Candido Barros to cast the first official Major League All Star ballot before the Red Sox Yankees game.  Candido had the opportunity to be down on the field for pre-game ceremonies, and then was treated to great seats at the game.
