The Boston Landmarks Orchestra, with Conductor and Artistic Director Charles Ansbacher, will bring free orchestral music to Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston through its Concerts for Children. The orchestra will perform Nkeiru Okoye’s The Journey of Phillis Wheatley, a narrated orchestral piece about the first African American to publish a book of poems. This program helps to expose young people to live classical music and teach them history lessons by performing works commissioned specifically for children based on significant events or individuals in Boston’s history.

Event Description: This fun, family event takes place before the Bunker Hill Day Parade. The 8K road race—a USAT&F certified course—is a scenic route starting and finishing at the Charlestown Navy Yard, and passing historic sites including the Bunker Hill Monument, the USS Constitution and the Warren Tavern. There is also a 2-mile novice race run by many children and parent/child teams. Enter Gate 4—pay parking at the Nautica or MGH.

Event Description: This fun, family event takes place on Bunker Hill Day in Charlestown before the Bunker Hill Day Parade. Celebrating its 40th year in 2008, the 8K road race—a USAT&F certified course—is a scenic route passing historic sites including the Bunker Hill Monument, the USS Constitution and the Warren Tavern. There is also a 2-mile novice race run by many children and parent/child teams. Registration fee is $15 for 2-mile race, $20 for 8K pre-registration and $25 on race day—race t-shirts for first 400 registered.

Event Description: Six to eight teens per Club are divided into four teams that compete by tackling problems in trivia and math, engineering, geography, puzzles and more. Each team has 15 minutes to solve each problem and earn points based on the activities they complete. They also have the opportunity to earn extra points at the bonus table.

Event Description: Approximately 60 Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston members, ages
9 to 12, will participate in the 5th annual “Jr. Battle of the Minds” to be held at the Museum of Science. “Battle of the Minds" is a collaborative effort among the Education Departments at BGCB's Clubs. Members will have the opportunity to work together as they complete a scavenger hunt around the Museum, and will be rewarded with an Omni movie at the conclusion of the scavenger hunt. The Museum also provided free admission passes and Omni tickets for all participating members.

More than 50 youth, ages 12 to 18, will work in inter-neighborhood teams with adult mentors, using professional software and hardware to create high-tech products that connect to this year's CyberSummit theme: “TechExec.” In just two days, they will be challenged to create video games, animation, robotics and other computer-generated products. On Friday afternoon, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., CyberSummit will conclude with CyberFair, a technology exhibition that provides participants with an opportunity to showcase and “market” their “products.”
CyberSummit provides a positive, productive activity for youth during school vacation week, and ensures that teens from backgrounds learn the skills necessary to survive in an increasingly technological world.
The Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club & District B-3 presents a community breakfast fundraiser to support activities at the Club & B-3 activities.
