Staff Professional Development Day

Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston has a track record of investing in staff through professional development. Even in the current economic climate, with budgets tight, BGCB is moving forward with its February 20th Staff Professional Development Day thanks to the generosity of professionals from a variety of industries who are presenting free workshops for staff.

Attorney David Camiel has more than 20 years of experience as an attorney and mortgage professional. A graduate of Northeastern University and Massachusetts School of Law, David focuses on education and training, becoming a valued resource to other industry professionals. Camiel, who will present two workshops, is also investing in BCGB staff by sponsoring 100 tickets for staff to attend an upcoming Celtics game.

His Home Buying Workshop covers the process of buying a first home, from mortgage pre-qualification to selecting a real estate broker to inspection and current market conditions. Strategies for Current Homeowners helps current homeowners understand current market opportunities including refinancing, and provides tips on maximizing a home’s value and protecting its equity from creditors through simple and inexpensive measures.

Other workshops include:

  • Helpful Tips and Hints in Managing Your Personal Finances, covering topics such as managing debt, consolidating credit cards, budgeting, the importance of an emergency fund and your retirement plan. The presenter is Sean Gibbons, Vice President of Investments at EBS Capstone which is affiliated with LPL Financial, the country’s largest independent broker-dealer.
  • Yoga and Wellness, providing tips for the beginner, including breathing and physical postures of the Vinyasa style of yoga.  The presenter is Ben McLellan N.A.S.M., who teaches yoga at Inner Strength in Watertown and works with weight loss and post rehab clients, former college athletes and beginning yogis.

  • A Healthy, Balanced Life presented by Kate Kenworth, a strength and conditioning specialist and co-owner of Edge Athletics Performing and Training Center. Kenworth has a B.S. in Athletic Training and a Masters in Human Movement from BU.

  • Planning the Perfect Vacation presented by Christine Layne, a leisure travel industry expert with American Express Travel, and Maria Pereira, a 31-year veteran of the travel industry, who has traveled extensively domestically and abroad.
