Mattahunt Torch Club Merit Award

BE GREAT --- BE GREEN! is the Torch Club National Project designed to highlight Torch Clubs working to protect and care for our environment.  The project is at least six weeks and many times year round.  Each project is created, planned and carried out by Torch Club members.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America announced the top three BE GREAT -- BE GREEN! Award winners.  Three Torch Clubs with excelling environmental projects will be chosen to win a first place ($2,500), a second place ($1,000) and a third place ($500) award.  Additionally, awards will be given for the 50 top environmental projects ($500 each).

The Mattahunt Torch Club received one of the 50 Merit Awards (from over 200 entries) by reusing aluminum cans and popsicle sticks to create pencil holders and making a short step by step video of creating the product.

The idea of the aluminum can soda came from the torch club president Julia Teixieria (5th grade).
