Just three short weeks after opening its doors, the Boys & Girls Club of the Franklin Hill Housing Development welcomed residents to celebrate Thanksgiving as a community. On November 20, Franklin Hill Club members and their families — 60 people in all — enjoyed a meal which parents helped set up, prepare and clean up - a true community collaboration.

At the event, Tanya Gould, Franklin Hill Club Director, saw gratitude on many parents’ faces. One parent of two Club members who volunteered her time to make the event a success, said, “Anybody who helps my kids has my help in return.”

Since opening on November 2, the new Shared-Space Club – BGCB’s first Club to be located in public housing – has welcomed nearly 40 new members, ages 6 to 12, offering them programs such as healthy eating, underwater exploration, team building, ping pong, Red Cross training, homework help and much more. Members have access to art, games and computer rooms.

"We are already building strong connections with the members that we serve as well as with the families in the community," Tanya said.

The Club was made possible through a collaboration between Trinity Financial, the Boston Housing Authority, The Greater Boston Food Bank, and the City of Boston. To learn more, click here.
