The happiest time of his life

Although it’s been 30 years since “PK” was a member of the South Boston Boys & Girls Club, the staff continue to see kids just like him. At the Club, they find ways to overcome obstacles by expressing themselves in a positive manner. For those young people, as it was for PK, the Club staff are able to provide encouragement, guidance and a sense of hope.

When PK’s mother recently passed away, she made sure her son’s legacy would live on at the South Boston Club. She made a $5,000 bequest to the Club in his memory.

The son had a troubled life – suffering from depression – but his family recalls his time at the Club as “the happiest time in his life.” To this day, he is remembered by Club staff as a wonderful athlete who was often referred to as “the gentle giant” on the basketball court.

“During these tough economic times, unexpected gifts like this bequest enable the Club to put once-in-a-lifetime experiences back on the table for our members,” says Harry Duvall, Executive Director of the South Boston Club. “This money will be used to provide activities such as field trips for Club members, and we are grateful to be able to provide such positive experiences for our young people.”
