Tom Matlack does...

With Father’s Day coming up, we wanted to let you know about The Good Men Project, an anthology of essays about what it means to be a man in America today. The authors, a wide cross section of men, including co-editor and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston supporter Tom Matlack, draw upon their experiences with childhood, coming of age, work, relationships, fatherhood or death and explore the perspectives they gained from those moments.

All proceeds from the book will benefit The Good Men Foundation, a charitable corporation dedicated to helping organizations, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, provide educational, social, financial or legal support to men and boys at risk.

“My work on this book reinforced the notion that the definition of what it means to be a man in America today can be entirely different for young, urban men than it is for their peers in the suburbs,” Tom says. “Through my involvement with Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, I have seen the importance of positive adult male role models in young men’s lives, and I wanted to connect these two initiatives to try to lessen the disparity.”

Today, the Foundation announced Perry Glasser as the winner of The Good Men Project National Writing Contest. As the Grand Prize winner, Glasser will receive $1,000, and his essay, “Iowa Black Dirt,” will be published in The Good Men Project anthology in November.
