Message from the CEO

Dear Friends of BGCB,

Spring is just hours away, and with it, arguably our most critical quarter.

In the spring, we help our teens find summer jobs – essential for teaching them responsibility and keeping them safe and off the streets during what is often the most dangerous time in their neighborhoods. We celebrate the accomplishments of our teens who are graduating from high school – many the first in their families to achieve this milestone – and help them prepare for college in the fall. And we transition from our after-school program to summer camp.

Club Members Get Up, Stand Up

This month, eight 14- and 15-year-olds had their day in court, but they were neither defendants nor witnesses to a crime. Members of the Dearborn Boys & Girls Club at the Henry Dearborn Middle School in Roxbury participated in an eight-week civic education program titled Stand Up For Your Rights that teaches young people how to have a voice through the legal system.

Mentoring: After Homework, Time for Fun

“I got a mentor because I felt like I needed some extra help with my homework, and because I wanted to be around someone who would listen to me and take the time to get to know me.”

Those words were written by Joseph, an 11-year-old member of the South Boston Club. One of four children, Joseph lives with his parents and siblings in Mattapan and attends middle school in Dorchester.

The Blue Hill Club's Night at the Apollo

Members from the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club's dance program competed and won first place in the Apollo Theater's Amateur Night on February 25.

Through BGCB's Arts program, one of six core program areas, every Club member has access to a wide variety of arts-based activities, from music and dance to visual arts and creative writing.
