Message from the CEO

Dear Friends,

At holiday time, once again, individuals and organizations responded to community need by donating Thanksgiving turkeys and all the trimmings for our members' families, and by joining with our staff to purchase an unprecedented 500 gifts on our member wish list. The joy and sense of hope that these donations bring to families is immeasurable, and on their behalf, all of us on the staff thank you.

These continue to be challenging economic times, but like so many of the young people we serve, we choose to focus on our assets - our great staff, hard-working Board, generous supporters, and the sense of hope that these bring. Great futures really do start here, thanks to you.

And with that I'll wish you all a very happy and safe holiday, and a great start to the new year.

Sincerely,

Josh

From Roxbury to India

The Fish Family Foundation has been funding a trip to Japan since 2005. The success of this life-changing experience led the Foundation to expand the program, and this February, members from the Yawkey Club of Roxbury will travel to India. In preparation, they are learning about the country's food, culture and history.

Lovejoy Luncheon Brings Together Longtime Supporters

Seven years ago, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston began hosting a holiday luncheon to bring together longtime members of its Board. This group of the organization's past leaders—some of whom served as Chair of the Board of Directors—looks forward to this annual reunion with old friends who share their commitment to helping the city's young people.

Ne-Yo's Giving Tour Brings Joy to Boston Youth

Three-time Grammy winner and R&B superstar Ne-Yo surprised 600 children when he visited the Blue Hill Club on December 7, as part of his Compound Foundation's Annual Giving Tour. The event brought together members from different BGCB Clubs as well as 300 children in foster care.

Friends Council Celebrates the Season

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, BGCB's Friends Council used its holiday party as a vehicle to raise money for kids, specifically members of the Condon Boys & Girls Club located in South Boston.

Developing an 'Eye' for Design

Murray Bass, Technology Director at the Yawkey Club of Roxbury, learned about a logo design competition for a startup travel company. When he heard that the winner would receive a cash prize, he immediately thought the contest would provide a great opportunity for members of the Club's Design Teamseveral Club teens who share an interest in graphic design. As he suspected, they jumped at the opportunity.
