Here's how it works:
Just call toll-free 877-784-BGCB (877-784-2422), or send email at your convenience to donations@charitableautoresource.com. Vehicle donation representatives are available from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. (East Coast Time) Monday - Friday, and 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Charitable Auto Resources, Inc. (CARS) will schedule a pick up that's convenient for you, and provide you with confirmation of your donation.
Vehicles are auctioned, with 70% of the proceeds going to charity. If the gross proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle are $500 or more and if you provide your social security number to the representative at the time of your donation, you will also receive IRS tax form 1098c stating the sale price of the vehicle. This amount is what you claim on your itemized tax return.
According to the tax law effective January 1, 2005, if the claimed value of the donated vehicle exceeds $500, the taxpayer is limited to the gross proceeds of the sale.
