Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston took the first steps towards fulfilling the vision of its five-year Strategic Plan with the expansion of its operations into two new Shared-Space Clubs. In September, BGCB opened two new School Clubs: the Condon Club at the John D. Condon Elementary School in South Boston and the Sumner Club at the Charles Sumner Elementary School in Roslindale.
The new Clubs answer the Strategic Plan’s call for investment and innovation to serve more youth and deepen impact. School Clubs bring BGCB’s resources and skilled staff into communities where the need is great, without the high cost of building and/or maintaining a facility. These Clubs provide after-school programs with focused, specialized curriculum for students enrolled in those schools, and - in the case of the Condon Club and the Sumner Club, where former Club department heads are now serving as Club Director - they create leadership and career development opportunities for BGCB staff.
The two new School Clubs serve approximately 150 additional youth, and bring our total number of Clubs to nine, including our two other School Clubs: the Mattahunt Club at the Mattahunt Elementary School in Mattapan and the Dearborn Club at the Henry Dearborn Middle School in Roxbury.
