42nd Annual Battle of Bunker Hill Road Race
Date: June 13, 2010
Time: 8:30 AM 2-mile novice-parent-child race | 9:30 AM 8 kilometer race
Event Description: This fun, family event takes place before the Bunker Hill Day Parade. The 8K road race—a USAT&F certified course—is a scenic route starting and finishing at the Charlestown Navy Yard, and passing historic sites including the Bunker Hill Monument, the USS Constitution and the Warren Tavern. There is also a 2-mile novice race run by many children and parent/child teams. Enter Gate 4—pay parking at the Nautica or MGH.
Cash prizes | T-shirts to the first 400 pre-registered runners | refreshments | trophies and merchandise | D.J. | post-race festivities
All proceeds go to ongoing programs at the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club.
Additional Details: Race will be timed with the ChampionChip Timing System. Runners will be issued a computer chip that affixes to the laces in their shoes and must be returned after the race (or pay $30).

First Bloom
Children from the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club in conjunction with the National Parks Service participated in a program called First Bloom. First Bloom connects kids to nature through hands-on planting and gardening projects at national parks near them. During several months of periodic learning activities and hands on experiences the kids are taught about conservation. On June 2, the culmination of the program, using native plants, the kids planted their garden in the Charlestown Navy Yard. They made beautiful stepping stones out of concrete, sea glass and shells to place in the garden.

Circuit City's ASPIRE program
Thanks to Circuit City’s ASPIRE program who came to the Club on October 9th to volunteer. They also brought pizza for all members and presented the Club with a new Wii, a plasma tv and many other fun products from their stores. Thanks to Circuit City and in particular to employees, Vickie Galanis and Zack Brennan, former Charlestown Club member.

Legal Seafoods Serves Lunch
Volunteers from Legal Seafoods served up a delicious lunch to campers on July 8th. The event was made possible by The Greater Boston Food Bank and Legal Seafoods.
Charlestown Club Awards Night
Congratulations to the 130 Club members who were recognized at the Club’s award nights on June 3 and 4. Members receive awards in one of five categories: Citizenship, Sportsmanship, Creativity, Achievement and Leadership. The 40th Battle of Bunker Hill Road Race was held on June 15, 2008. Despite the bad weather, almost 500 runners had a great race and the club met its fundraising goal.
