Members from the Blue Hill Club and South Boston Club share "RESPECT" in the recording studio

Blue Hill Club Music Clubhouse Director Rick Aggeler and South Boston Club Music Instructor Daniel Tortoledo mentor young people who would not normally have access to music lessons. Both are alumni of Berklee College of Music, and together they are helping Club members, ages 11 and 12, collaborate on a recording of the song, "Respect."

Members from both Clubs are recording all the parts for the song. The Blue Hill members are recording the drums, bass, and piano parts. The South Boston members are contributing the vocals, the guitar, and a tambourine part. Youth at Sociedad Latina, which donated 12 hours of recording time in its Mission Hill studio, are recording and editing the track.

"The kids are learning what it's like to be a studio musician, working together to record the best possible takes they can," says Aggeler. "They experience what it's like to be under pressure in recording parts for a song. It's a HUGE self-esteem booster."

The young musicians will perform together again at a Fashion Show being held at the Blue Hill Performance Arts Center on Saturday, April 5.

BGCB's Music Clubhouses are funded by grants from the Smith Family Foundation and the Music and Youth Initiative.
