Club Remix

“The Club sent me to a leadership camp called Club Remix, where we discussed topics such as Sexism, Racism, Stereotypes and Oppression.  It was one of the experiences that has made me who I am today.”

More than 40 teens from BGCB’s Clubs participated in the 3rd annual Club Remix, a three-day retreat to confront issues of race, gender and identity. The retreat, held during February school vacation week, is produced by BGCB in partnership with the Boston Center for Community & Justice (BCCJ), and funded anonymously by a friend of both organizations. Club Remix helps youth gain a deep understanding of the power of stereotypes and oppression, enables them to link the effects of oppression to health concerns, such as suicide, pregnancy, drug use, and violence, and empowers them to take action on these issues. Three teens were given the opportunity to build on leadership skills gained through past Club Remixes by serving as counselors and assistant counselors.

Club Remix is an opportunity for youth to speak about serious topics and feel supported by their peers. It is also the beginning of strong, healthy relationships, as it allows them to take action on these issues with other youth back at the Clubs.

"I shared things here that I’ve never shared with anyone, not even my family."
