Getting in is just part of the challenge

Homework. SATs. College Essays. College Interviews. Campus Visits. Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston helps our members with all of these; each a necessary step on the road to higher education. So many of our members complete all of these tasks with excellent results, which makes it heartbreaking when they cannot go to the university of their choice because of financial reasons. For a lucky few, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston's scholarship program is making it possible for them to fulfill their dream of a college education.
All of our Clubs offer academic and career assistance, ranging from homework and SAT help to college visits and career workshops. There is a Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston program or staff member to help members every step of the way and make sure they are prepared to conquer the challenges that lie ahead, especially since many will be the first in their family to go to college. Students are even put in contact with Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston alumni at the college they are considering, or planning, to attend.
Currently there are more than 10 scholarships made available by generous individual donors or by the colleges themselves. The scholarships, ranging from $500 to $5,000, are awarded based on academic merit, community involvement and financial need. While alumni are encouraged to apply, high school seniors are given priority. Many of our scholarships are only for the first year; still, any assistance goes a long way. After tuition and room and board there are still books to pay for and living expenses to cover.
