“We’re grateful to our community of partner organizations that come together time after time to create incredible experiences for the youth of Boston and Chelsea, and this event was no exception.” – Will Southall, Assistant Director of Corporate Engagement, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
Many youth across Boston and Chelsea look forward to getting their hands on the latest technology. Many more look forward to watching their favorite players on the Boston Celtics compete for an NBA championship. This September, these worlds collided for members of Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club, thanks to Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston partners Boston Scientific and the Boston Celtics.
“We’re grateful to our community of partner organizations that come together time after time to create incredible experiences for the youth of Boston and Chelsea, and this event was no exception,” said Will Southall, Assistant Director of Corporate Engagement at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston.
Unveiling a New Preteen Lounge
On September 17, 2019, members of both Boston Scientific and the Boston Celtics organization teamed up to unveil a renovated preteen lounge at the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club in Dorchester, MA. The renovated lounge features cutting edge technology, including iPads, LEGO robotics, the latest video games, a Sony PlayStation 4, and a 3D printer. Among the many people present for the unveiling was former Celtics forward and 2008 NBA Champion Leon Powe, current Celtics Guard Semi Ojeleye, and Boston Scientific CEO and Chairman of the Board Mike Mahoney.
Fit For a Cause by Boston Scientific
The renovation project was made possible by Boston Scientific’s Fit for a Cause initiative. As a part of the program, the Boston Celtics challenge employees from Boston Scientific across Massachusetts and Rhode Island to increase their physical activity, and provide the opportunity to improve their communities with a “pay it forward” prize. The team representing Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club won the challenge, and their chosen prize was the brand-new lounge.
A Slam Dunk by the Boston Celtics
The first part of the unveiling took place in the renovated preteen lounge, enabling Club members to enjoy the new space alongside of Powe, Ojeleye, and leadership and staff of the Boston Celtics, Boston Scientific, and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. This was followed by a pep rally in the Club gymnasium that included reflections from Powe and Ojeleye focused on their time as preteens, as well as a dunk show performance from Lucky and his JetBlue Flight Crew.
