“A lot of basketball leagues in the city don’t have an educational component, and that is very important to us and what differentiates use from other leagues.”

—Craig Smith, Manny Wilson Basketball Academy Commisioner

Manny Wilson Basketball Academy, which merges basketball with academic achievement, has been thriving in the Roxbury community for more than 30 years. Yawkey Club of Roxbury Athletic Director Geoffrey Bynoe started the program in collaboration with Arodorothy Wilson, who is Manny Wilson’s mother, to honor the legacy of Manny Wilson.

Manny Wilson, a Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston alum and an incredibly well-rounded individual, died tragically in 1992 while serving as a BHA Police Officer. The program carries on his community-centric spirit and embodies each of BGCB’s core values of Youth First, Integrity, Community, Equity, and Innovation.
