Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective club community.
The annual program fosters personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.
Get to know Echezona, the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club Youth of the Year:
After 10 years at the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club, Echezona (“Eche”) says calling the Club his second home would not begin to describe the significant role it has played in his life.
The Club provided Eche with the “experience of a lifetime,” teaching him to find the beauty in his voice and message and act as a role model for both younger members and fellow teens. His drive and passion for music allowed him to thrive in the Club’s studio, nurturing a love for both composing and performing the art of hip-hop. Eche is quick to take advantage of opportunities outside his comfort zone and inspires other members with his positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Club staff describes Eche as a leader who cherishes the sustainability of his Club community; he often provides thoughtful feedback on how the Teen Center can be the best place for Club members. As a Club alumnus, Eche is staying connected with his Blue Hill community.
