“Do not let anyone tell you who to be. That is how you become the best version of yourself.”

– Leslie, Josh Kraft Mattapan Teen Center’s 2023 Youth of the Year

Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.

Get to know Leslie, Josh Kraft Mattapan Teen Center’s 2023 Youth of the Year:

Leslie is committed to creating impact by using her voice, her identity, and experiences to positively inspire the youth in her community. Following her first summer at Josh Kraft Mattapan Teen Center, Leslie faced challenges in school, work, and her mental health. However, she continued to attend the Club as she knew it was the place where she had people to rely on. The Club gave her space to grow and become the person she knew she could be. Leslie now loves being a role model for younger members who struggles with challenges she used to experience. Leslie is a senior at Boston Latin Academy and plans to attend St. John’s University.
