“The Club to me means community and guidance, always having a trusted adult with you that’s willing to help you through challenges you face. This is a place free of judgement and full of opportunity.”

Luis, Jordan Club’s 2023 Youth of the Year

Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.

Get to know Luis, Gerald and Darlene Jordan Club’s 2023 Youth of the Year:

For over 10 years, the Jordan Club has been a second home for Luis. What started as just a place for homework help quickly turned into the place he looked forward to going to the most. From learning how to swim to being employed as a Teen Associate, Luis has learned so much through the Club and works to help younger kids do the same.

Leadership, Community Advocacy, and Social Impact:

Luis found his voice through the Hiking Club at the Jordan Club. Before joining he describes himself as being quiet and following others even when they weren’t making the best choices. Hiking Club helped Luis learn how to communicate and be a leader. His leadership in Keystone Club has helped him provide resources for families in Chelsea. For example, Luis worked with Chelsea Hunger Network to stock the mobile pantry at the Jordan Club so families could shop for food at the Club. Luis will continue to advocate for others in his future in and outside of the Jordan Club community. Luis is a senior at Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School and will attend Bunker Hill Community College in the fall with plans to pursue a career in early childhood education.
