“With the support and strength of a great team behind you, those who oppose you will never break you…because your foundation is strong.”

-Kayla, Blue Hill Club’s 2023 Youth of the Year

Established in 1947, the Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) recognizes Club members who have shown superior leadership, academic achievement, and service to their respective Club community. The annual program builds personal growth and leadership qualities among our young members.

Get to know Kayla, Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club’s 2023 Youth of the Year:

After transferring schools at just 12 years old, Kayla was nervous to start fresh and meet friends. Through one Teen Center staff at Blue Hill, Kayla’s Club experience changed forever. She began to look forward to going to the Club and overcame her social anxiety. Kayla is now President of Keystone and the Anime Club at Blue Hill and has become a mentor for younger members. Blue Hill’s Teen staff were vital to her journey at the Club, and she tries to embody that welcoming attitude for others.

Kayla is rooted in compassion. She describes herself as a good friend as she always makes sure her friends always have someone to talk to and depend on. She listens to her friends’ and family’s struggles with patience and grace and feels everyone should provide that for the important people in their life. Kayla is a 17-year-old junior at Boston Latin Academy aspiring to enter a career in biotechnology after graduation. As Blue Hill’s 2023 Youth of the Year, Kayla will work to utilize her voice to be an agent of change.
