A Summer Job Turned Fulfilling Career: Jasmine’s BGCB Story
Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston is fortunate to have a tremendous alumni presence among its staff. In fact, nearly 30% of staff are “Club kids.” One such alumni staff member is Jasmine Santos, who attended the Yawkey Club of Roxbury as a teen, became the Club’s Membership Service Manager after graduating from college, and is now the organization’s Corporate and Foundations Engagement Coordinator.

All BGCB registration is completed in the MyClubHub Parent Portal. In the Parent Portal, families can complete membership applications, program registration, and submit payment. The Parent Portal link is a private link that can be accessed upon request made directly to Club Membership Staff. Once application and payment are received, please allow 48 hours for Club Membership Staff to review your application and send you an invitation to a parent orientation session.
Afterschool enrollment for returning families begins August 1; new family enrollment begins the second week of September.
Summer camp enrollment for returning families begins February 1; new family enrollment begins the second week in March.
What are the eligibility requirements for programming?
The Yawkey Club of Roxbury’s programs serve children ages 6-18. All six-year-olds must be enrolled in the first grade. All members must be residents of the City of Boston.
We work to be an inclusive space on the basis of ability. For children on the autism spectrum and/or experiencing developmental challenges, our Club Social Worker will connect with families during the enrollment period to assess whether Yawkey Club of Roxbury is the best program for your child(ren) and establish a plan for their success.
What documents are required for my member to be medically cleared?
If your child is prescribed an emergency medication, e.g. EpiPen or albuterol inhaler, the medication along with the following documentation must be submitted before they start attending programming:
Anaphylaxis or Asthma Action Plan
Medication Order Form
Medication Parental Authorization Form
Medication must be submitted in the original package with the pharmacy label.
Does the Club provide transportation?
The Club does not provide transportation services for our members. Contact your child(ren)’s school(s) Family Liaison or the district’s transportation department to inquire about bus route options. Club Membership Staff also have a working list of private transportation companies used by existing Club members available upon request.
Can my member walk home unsupervised?
To be an unsupervised walker, it must be indicated on the membership application for members aged 12 and older. Members aged 6-11 are not permitted to leave the building without an adult, notwithstanding if indicated on their membership application.
How do I report behavioral concerns missed by Club staff?
Please contact the Club Director of Operations or Program Director via email or in-person.
Can my eldest child, who is a teenager, pick up my youngest child?
The youngest child must be at least 10 years-old and the eldest child must be at least 12 years old. Members aged 6-9 can only leave the building in the custody of an adult.
Can I pack snacks or lunch for my child to have at the Club?
All outside foods are prohibited at the Club. Snacks and dinner are provided daily to all members.
The only exceptions granted are to support a member’s medical condition; a doctor’s note must be provided.
How can I get my teen employed at the Club?

What is the membership fee? Does the membership fee guarantee member for an entire calendar year?
The Membership Fee is a one-time payment of $25.00 for ages 6-12 and $5.00 for ages 13-18. The Membership Fee grants access to the building from September to June. Membership must be renewed annually for Summer and the following school year.
Do staff meet Members at the bus stop and escort them into the building?
No, once on club property all members must self-escort into the building. Front Desk and Security staff monitor members entering the building.
Can children that are not current members (e.g. inactive members or younger siblings) of the Club wait for their guardian in the building?
Children who are not active and medically cleared Club members are not permitted to enter the building. In the event an unauthorized child enters the building Club staff will activate the non-member arrival protocol including, but not limited to, contacting the child’s guardian, police, and the Department of Children and Families.
What are the hours of operation? Can I drop off my member before 1:00pm?
The Yawkey Club of Roxbury afterschool program hours of operation are 1:00pm-6:00pm.
The Roxbury Club offers during the Afterschool program a free Before Club service that allows members to arrive as early as 11:30am. Registration for Before Club is required.
The Roxbury Club, also, offers evening programs between 6:00pm-7:30pm. Registration for evening programs are required.
How do I enroll in Before Club service?
Families can register for Before Club through the Parent Portal and at the Front Desk with a hardcopy form.
How do I register my member for Specialty Programs? How to check Specialty Program availability?
The Roxbury Club hosts an in-person Open House event in September for families to sign-up their member(s) in Specialty Programs. Families can also check the availability for and sign-up for Specialty Programs by directly emailing the staff person that is facilitating the program of interest. Staff contact information is available in the Light the Night specialty program guide underneath the program description.
When are my member’s swim days? How can my teenager get access to the pool?
If your teen member is interested in using the pool, please email- Malik Swain, Aquatics Manager, mswain-portis@bgcb.org to schedule a swim time.
Can my members bring their phone/electronic device to the Club?
Please do not bring or send valuables to the Club; including iPads, tablets, cell phones, electronic items, video games, and jewelry. The Yawkey Club of Roxbury is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal articles.
If your member must use a tablet or laptop for academic purposes, they are responsible for those items.

How do I know if the Club is closed due to weather?
Weather-related closures will be announced on TV news stations (as Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston) and through the One Call system, which will notify families of any changes to the schedule.
Can I be involved in Club activities or events?
